Texas Plane Crash: Five Dead After Small Plane Carrying Pickleball Players Crashes

Texas: A small Cessna 421C plane crashed into trees near Wimberley at around 11 pm in the Hill Country area of ​​Texas. The pilot and four passengers on board the plane were declared dead on the spot. This place is about 40 miles away from Austin.

Who were those five people on the plane?

Amarillo Pickleball Club posted on Facebook that the names of the five killed members are Seren Wilson, Brooke Skypala, Stacey Hedrick, Glen Appling and Hayden Dillard. All of them were going to participate in a tournament; they had left home with the passion to play but did not return.

Where did they come from? 

The plane was taking off from Amarillo and was heading towards New Braunfels. After the accident, the plane caught fire, causing serious damage to it. According to preliminary information, the plane was flying at a very high speed at the time of the collision.

Was any warning received before the accident?

In the air traffic control audio, the pilot of the other plane said that he could not make any contact with that plane. To this the controller replied that the aircraft suddenly started flying in an unusual manner and then disappeared from the radar. A pilot in the area confirmed that a distress signal had been received from the plane's emergency equipment, after which the controller called 911.

Was there another plane also?

Amarillo Pickleball Club President Dan Dyer said another plane leaving Amarillo for the same event at the same time landed safely at New Braunfels Airport. That means two planes took off simultaneously; one arrived, the other did not.

What is the pickleball community going through?

Dan Dyer said that he had played many matches with these four players and had also given them medals. He was an excellent player and came out with the intention of winning. The club wrote in its post, "Remember their families in your prayers." The tournament which was waiting for these players has been cancelled. 

What will happen next?

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the matter. There was a technical glitch or the weather cheated; this will come out in the investigation. But until answers are found, five families will continue to wait for their loved ones to never return home.
