International News: US President Trump's new laws are affecting trade around the world. Postal services of many European countries, including Japan and Taiwan, have stopped sending small parcels to America after major customs changes. This new customs rule of America is so complicated that European postal companies are unable to understand it. Due to this confusion, many companies have stopped their postal services to America.
According to a CNBC report, this ban is linked to President Donald Trump's order that officially ends the minimum exemption for foreign packages worth less than $800. This order applies to all countries, not just China.
Earlier, foreign parcels costing less than $800 (about Rs 67,000) could be sent to the US without any tax or excessive scrutiny. Now the Trump administration has ended this exemption. Every small and big parcel will be charged customs duty (tax) and will be thoroughly inspected.
As a result, postal services in several countries are holding back such parcels, saying their systems can't keep up with the new rules and that carriers don't know how customs duties will be calculated, who will collect them, or how that information will be passed on to U.S. authorities.
Parcel service DHL issued a statement on Friday clarifying that Deutsche Post and DHL Parcel Germany have stopped accepting parcels bound for the US. The company said, "Some important questions are still unresolved, especially how and by whom customs duties will be collected in the future, what additional data will be required, and how the data will be sent to US Customs and Border Protection."
