Washington: Amidst the ongoing tension with Iran, questions are now being raised within America about the cost of this war. There is also concern among common people about the increasing military expenditure and possible economic impact. Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant has made it clear that at present there is no shortage of funds.
Scott Besant said in an interview that America is fully capable of funding this war. He assured that the government has enough money to continue the military operation. However, he also admitted that considering the times to come, additional funds may be required.
Besant clearly said that there was no plan to increase taxes to meet the expenses of the war. Trying to reduce people's concerns, he said that the government can handle this situation without increasing the tax burden.
But he did not say where the money would come from if the expenditure increases.
The Trump administration is preparing to ask for an additional amount of about 200 billion dollars from Congress. According to Besant, this money is not being asked directly for the war but keeping in mind the preparation of the army and the needs of the coming months. Nevertheless, opposition has started at the political level regarding this proposal.
Besant supported the tough stance of President Donald Trump. He says that sometimes strictness is necessary to keep the situation under control. He said that it is necessary to put pressure on talks with Iran, because according to him only that method is effective.
Early indications suggest that this conflict could be among America's most expensive military operations. According to reports, billions of dollars have been spent in the initial phase itself. The impact is not limited to the United States. Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz are causing oil prices to rise, impacting economies around the world.
Concern about inflation is increasing in America. The rise in oil prices and increasing government expenditure can directly impact the pockets of common people. This is the reason why pressure is increasing on the government to bring this war to a conclusion soon or at least control the economic impact.
