New Delhi: Renowned American economist Professor Jeffrey Sachs has lambasted US foreign policy. He sharply criticized US President Donald Trump, stating that the idea of a "rules-based world order" is nothing more than a fairy tale.

What is Sach’s warning?

Jeffrey Sachs warned that after Venezuela, Iran could be President Trump's next military target. Professor Sachs said that if this happens, it would be a recipe for disaster, as Iran possesses hypersonic missiles.

Talking to the media after his testimony before the UN Security Council on Venezuela, Sachs described Trump as "completely out of control" and the US as a country run by a "deep state" military system. Jeffrey Sachs said that this system operates outside constitutional limits. The economist revealed that eight years ago, Trump asked Latin American leaders, "Why don't I just invade Venezuela?"

What is his warning on Iran?

Professor Jeffrey Sachs' most chilling warning now focuses on Iran. He predicted that if Trump takes military action, it would be "even more dangerous than Venezuela." He revealed that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu met Trump at Mar-a-Lago around the New Year, where they reportedly said together, "Iran, it's your turn now."

What did Sach say about Israel?

The economist called Israel "a country even more rogue than the US" and warned that because Iran possesses hypersonic missiles and is among the major powers, any conflict could trigger a "global explosion." He appealed to the BRICS countries, under India's chairmanship this year, to defend the UN Charter against US imperialist expansion.

Who drives US foreign policy?

Professor Sachs said that the CIA, the Pentagon, and other security agencies largely drive US foreign policy. One of the pillars of US foreign policy is regime change—whether through wars, so-called colour revolutions, assassinations, or coups.

He said that in the case of Venezuela, the United States has been trying to overthrow this government for more than 20 years because it is a left-wing government and because it doesn't give American oil companies what they want.

They attempted a direct coup in 2002, instigated protests in 2014, imposed harsh economic sanctions during Trump's first term, and finally, Trump said, "We will overthrow this government by military means."

Who will the US attack next?

When Professor Sachs was asked who the  next target of the US might be, he said he feared that Iran could be the next target.

Explaining the US plan regarding Iran, Professor Jeffrey Sachs said, "Israel is very obsessed with Iran and wants to remove the Iranian government. The US, for reasons that are not 100 percent clear, is essentially beholden to Israel. The US fights the wars that Israel tells it to fight. This is actually very, very dangerous."

Professor Jeffrey Sachs said that when Netanyahu came to Mar-a-Lago around the New Year last week, they issued a joint statement saying, "Iran, it's your turn now, or your turn might be coming."

Trump has said that if the Iranian government cracks down on the protests, "we are fully prepared. We are ready to fight."

“This is clearly a typical deep state provocation. Using the human rights argument to attack Iran in order to "protect the Iranian people" is a standard tactic,” Sach said.

“This is where I see the potential for a real global explosion. If this happens, it will be even more dangerous than Venezuela. It could potentially be catastrophic because Venezuela is in the US's geographical neighborhood, and China and Russia don't want to pick a fight with the US there. But Iran is situated between several major powers. Iran possesses hypersonic missiles and has the capacity to inflict significant damage. Israel is a nuclear-armed state. All in all, this is a recipe for potential disaster,” he added.
