Washington: US President Donald Trump warned Iran on Sunday to stay away from the Strait of Hormuz. He said the US held talks with Iranian officials overnight. If Iran blocks the strait, there will be serious consequences, Trump said. He spoke to the media, "You close it, and you won't have a country. You won't even make it back to your f***ing country."
Trump said the US could take direct control of the strait if needed. He also suggested Washington could charge tolls on oil ships passing through. "We may take over the Strait if we have to. I'll blow the sh*t out of them," Trump added. He also warned about money. If Iran doesn't make a deal within 60 days, the US will charge transit fees. During the 60-day ceasefire, no tolls. After that, if talks fail, the US collects fees.
Trump said the fees would pay for US military protection. He called the military a "Guardian Angel" for the region.
Iran's president Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran won't give up its right to enrich uranium. He said the US will have to accept this. Trump responded sharply. "He better watch his mouth. He better shape up, or we will take over the rest of the country," Trump said.
Trump said the US has other options if Iran doesn't cooperate.
US Vice President JD Vance said there's progress. He said the talks in Switzerland are going better than expected. There are disagreements on Lebanon and the strait, but things are moving forward.
Qatar and Pakistan announced on Sunday that talks officially started in Switzerland. The meeting brought together representatives from the US, Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan. Everyone hopes to reach a full agreement that covers all the issues.
