Both science and Ayurveda believe that copper is such a trace mineral, even a small amount of which helps in many important functions of our body.
The effect of copper deficiency is seen slowly in the body, but its consequences can be quite serious. Fading skin color, falling sick frequently, feeling tired and weakness in bones – all these can be signs that there is a deficiency of copper in your body. Copper is necessary for the formation of melanin, so its deficiency can also lighten the skin color. Also, it helps in producing hemoglobin in the blood, which prevents anemia.
Copper is an important part of the body's defense system i.e. the immune system. It helps in the formation of white blood cells, which give the body the strength to fight infections. Due to lack of copper, the body is unable to fight bacteria and viruses. Therefore, it is important to maintain its balanced level in the body.
The body cannot make copper on its own, so its only source is food. Foods like cashews, chickpeas, coarse grains, figs, avocado, tofu and dark chocolate are rich in copper. Another easy solution is to drink water kept in a copper vessel. and drink the water empty stomach which was stored in copper pot for overnight,slowly delivers copper to the body. This method is considered very beneficial in Ayurveda.
Many people get nervous about copper deficiency and start taking supplements without thinking. But this can be dangerous. Taking too much copper can be dangerous.It cause problems like stomach pain, vomiting, liver inflammation and diarrhea. Therefore, take supplements only when the doctor advises it.
Copper may be needed in very small quantities in the body, but its role is extremely important. With a balanced diet, right habits and Ayurvedic methods, we can safely make it a part of our lives. Remember, every secret of health is hidden in the treasure of nature – we just need to understand it.
