'But what sort of friendship is this?...' Congress targets PM Modi after Trump praises Pakistan's Asim Munir, Shehbaz Sharif

Congress targets PM Modi: After recent US President Donald Trump's complimentary statement for Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir, Congress attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government. He took to the social media handle and posted a long statement in connection with the US and PM Modi's friendship. 

What Congress leader said ? 

Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh, in his X post, asked what kind of signal is this. In his X post, he wrote, "But what sort of friendship is this? President Trump hosted Field Marshal Asim Munir to an unprecedented lunch in the White House on June 18, 2025. This was the Field Marshal whose inflammatory and communally poisonous remarks provided the backdrop to the Pahalgam terror attacks orchestrated by Pakistan on April 22, 2025."

He further added, "Now in Egypt yesterday, President Trump calls Asim Munir as 'my favourite Field Marshal' and gives special place to the PM of Pakistan. What kind of signal is President Trump sending to India, in spite of Mr. Modi's desperate attempts to ingratiate himself with the US President?"

What US President Donald Trump said?

It is to be noted here that during the Middle East peace summit held in Egypt on Monday, Trump praised Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir, and called him his “favourite field marshal”. After that he turned to Sharif, standing behind him on stage, and asked him to speak in the middle of his own speech.

After the incident, Sharif praised Trump, and called him “a man of peace” and also emphasised that Pakistan had nominated the US President for this year's Nobel Peace Prize.
