New Delhi: A major accident occurred on Monday near Oman waters when the US Navy attacked the MT Marivex oil tanker. Twenty-four Indian crew members were aboard. Following the attack, the ship caught fire, was severely damaged, and was on the verge of sinking. All Indians were later rescued safely. A distressing audio message emerged from the ship during the incident, in which an Indian crew member was heard repeatedly pleading for help.

In the audio message, Indian crew member was heard repeatedly pleading for help and his voice was filled with panic and fear. He said, "Help! The ship is on fire and sinking." He also said that the missile had hit the ship's engine room, leaving a large hole underneath, and water was rapidly filling in.

He also repeatedly stated that all 24 people on board were Indians and needed immediate help. This message came at a time when the ship was in dire straits.

How did the officials react?

Upon receiving the information, the Indian Coast Guard's Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in Mumbai began monitoring the situation. Upon receiving the information at approximately 2:20 pm, India immediately contacted the Maritime Rescue Center in Oman to expedite the rescue operation.

Shortly thereafter, the Royal Oman Air Force launched a rescue operation. A helicopter flew from Masirah Island to the scene. Under extremely difficult conditions, the helicopter safely rescued the stranded Indian crew members.

What did the ministry say?

India's Ministry of Defense praised the joint rescue operation, calling it a successful example of international cooperation. The ministry also praised the promptness of the Indian Coast Guard and the swift action of the Omani team.

The US, meanwhile, has confirmed the attack. The US military said the ship was heading toward an Iranian port and disobeyed instructions. Following this, US fighter jets took action, targeting the ship's engines and control systems.

According to US officials, the ship had attempted to sail toward Iran several times before and had turned back after receiving three warnings. The fourth attempt was made to intercept it.
