New Delhi. Pilot Captain Sumit Kapoor, who lost his life in the plane crash involving Ajit Pawar, was not originally scheduled to fly the ill-fated flight. According to his friends, he took the flight at the last minute, replacing another pilot.
The pilot who was supposed to fly was stuck in traffic, so Sumit Kapoor was sent in his place. Captain Sumit Kapoor had returned from Hong Kong just a few days earlier. His friends say he was informed about this flight only a few hours before the accident.
He was supposed to fly Ajit Pawar from Mumbai to Baramati, where Pawar was to attend election-related events. The Learjet-45 aircraft, operated by Delhi-based company VSR Ventures, took off from Mumbai at around 8 am. There were a total of five people on board, including Ajit Pawar.
The accident occurred at around 8:45 am at Baramati airport during the second landing attempt. All five people on board died on the spot. The deceased include Captain Sumit Kapoor, co-pilot Captain Shambhavi Pathak, flight attendant Pinky Mali, and Ajit Pawar's security guard Vidip Jadhav.
According to sources, initial investigations suggest that the accident was caused by bad weather and low visibility during landing, possibly due to pilot misjudgment. However, the possibility of a technical malfunction has not been ruled out and is still under investigation.
But Captain Kapoor's friends say he was a very experienced pilot and it is highly unlikely that he would have made such a mistake. His friends have demanded a fair and thorough investigation into the accident.
Friends described Sumit Kapoor as a very kind person who loved flying more than anything else. Several members of his family are also associated with aviation. His son and son-in-law are both pilots. Both his son and daughter are married. He has a brother who runs a business in Gurugram.
His friend Sachin Taneja said that Sumit Kapoor was identified by the bracelet he was wearing on his wrist. Naresh Taneja said that no one could believe the news of the accident and that Sumit Kapoor was no longer alive. His friend G.S. Grover said that Kapoor had a long conversation with him after returning from Hong Kong and advised him to take special care of his health.
