Haryana: The website of Al-Falah University, located in Faridabad, Haryana, was hacked by unknown hackers on November 11. For some time, a threatening message appeared on the website, which read, "Islamic University has no place on Indian soil. If you want to live in India, then live in peace; otherwise, those doing Islamic Jihad should go to Pakistan." The message ended with a warning—"We are keeping an eye on your anti-national activities; stop it, or we will destroy you."
The website was restored shortly after the hacking. The university administration issued a statement saying that the IT team has immediately restored the system and the website is now working normally. However, after the incident, screenshots of the hacking message quickly went viral on social media, causing fear and panic among the students and staff of the university.
The timing of this cyberattack is very important because recently the name of Al-Falah University has come up in the Red Fort blast case of Delhi. Dr. Muzammil Shakeel, one of the accused doctors involved in the Delhi blast, was a professor at this university. Dr. Muzammil has been working here as a general physician since last year and lives in the doctor's quarters inside the university campus.
Dr. Muzammil is the same accused who was arrested a few days ago by the joint team of Jammu and Kashmir and Faridabad Police. After his arrest, police recovered 2,900 kg of explosives, an AK-47 rifle, and several timer devices from his house and office. Investigating agencies believe that Muzammil was part of the “White Collar Terror Network,” which was involved in terrorist conspiracies like the Delhi blasts.
The Al-Falah University administration clarified that they were not aware of any suspicious or criminal activity by Dr. Muzammil. The administration said that they are fully cooperating with the agencies in the investigation. But after the website hacking, questions have started being raised regarding the security arrangements of the university.
Immediately after the incident, the Faridabad Cyber Crime Unit registered an FIR in this matter and started an investigation. Police are trying to find out who hacked the website and what the intention behind the attack was. In the initial investigation, it is being said to be a case of “reactionary hacking,” which happened after the university was named in the Delhi blast case.
Is there increased security at Al-Falah University now?
After the hacking, the security of the university's online system has been increased. The website's servers and data backups are being thoroughly examined. At present the website is working normally, but the administration has clarified that cybersecurity and monitoring will be further strengthened in the coming days so that such incidents are not repeated.
