Punjab News:Poisonous liquor has once again wreaked havoc in Majitha area of Amritsar district of Punjab. Fourteen people tragically lost their lives after consuming poisonous liquor in the villages of Bhangali Kalan, Mardi Kalan, and Jayantipur, while six others remain in critical condition. This accident has not only devastated many families, but has also raised questions on administrative negligence.

Vomiting before death, then mourning

The victim families say that their family members started vomiting shortly after consuming the liquor. The health of many people started deteriorating rapidly and by the time they were taken to the hospital, many had stopped breathing. The villagers alleged that the business of fake liquor was going on in the area for a long time, but no concrete action was ever taken by the administration.

Officers reached the spot, mastermind arrested

As soon as the information of the incident was received, DC Sakshi Sahni reached the spot and met the victim families and expressed condolences. On the other hand, the Punjab government has taken immediate action and arrested Prabhjit Singh, the mastermind of the fake liquor racket.

The police said that apart from Prabhjit, his brother Kulbir Singh alias Jaggu, Sahib Singh alias Sarai, Gurjant Singh and Ninder Kaur have also been detained. All of them are said to be associated with this illegal liquor network.

SSP said: Will end the entire network

Amritsar Rural SSP Maninder Singh said,"We received information at night that many people are dying due to poisonous liquor. Taking immediate action, four people were arrested. The main supplier Prabhjit Singh is also in custody". He further said,"A case has been registered under Section 105 of the BNS and Section 61A of the Excise Act. Two FIRs have been registered. The entire network is being investigated and there are clear instructions from the government that the culprits will not be spared."

Questions raised on administrative negligence

Local people say that this illegal business of fake liquor is not new. This business was going on openly for years, but the administration always turned a blind eye. If the villagers are to be believed, if action had been taken earlier, so many houses would have been saved from destruction today.

Will the business of poison stop now?

This tragic incident has once again shown how strong and fearless the fake liquor mafia is in Punjab. Now it remains to be seen whether the Punjab government and administration just make arrests and sit quiet or this time uproot the entire network. When will the families of the deceased get justice, it will be clear in the coming days.
