'Lagataar Baith Ke Pee Rahe...,' Anurag Thakur Accuses TMC MPs of Smoking Banned E-cigarettes In Lok Sabha

New Delhi: The Winter Session of Parliament witnessed heated exchanges between the opposition and the treasury. Amid the heated exchange of words, the BJP on Thursday accused a Trinamool Congress MP of smoking an e-cigarette in the Parliament premises. Notably, this e-cigarette is also known as vape.

Speaking in Lok Sabha, BJP MP Anurag Thakur said, “I just want to request something so that the House knows. E-Cigarettes are banned in the country. Have you (Speaker) allowed it in the House? TMC MPs are using e-cigarettes in the House.”

Meanwhile, Speaker Om Birla said, “It has not been permitted. All members are expected to follow the rules. If such things come to light, I will take strict action.”

Further speaking in the Lok Sabha, Anurag Thakur also spoke about flood incident in Himachal. He said, ''In the last 2-3 years, several flood incidents have occurred in Himachal. Due to this, damage has certainly been caused to the riverbank areas, and due to mining and timber mafia, the mountainous assets have also suffered significant damage.''

He added, ''Regarding my question in Parliament about the total amount allocated to Himachal Pradesh for riverbank protection, the Honorable Minister of Jal Shakti, Shri CR Paatil ji, stated that a total of Rs 8625 crore rupees has been allocated to Himachal so far.''

What are e-cigarettes?

It is to be noted here that E-cigarettes are electronic devices that works mainly by heating a liquid to create an aerosol that are inhale by users. This liquid mainly contains some chemicals, nicotine, and flavouring agents and other chemicals. This is not like the traditional cigarettes. They are marketed as a safer alternative to smoking, although as per health experts it carry significant health risks for people.
