Bihar: Tejashwi Yadav elected RJD working president, Lalu Yadav signals 'Dawn of new era'

Patna: In a crucial meeting of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) National Executive in Patna on Sunday, Tejashwi Yadav has been elected as the National Working President. According to reports, the proposal to make Tejashwi the party's working president was put forward by RJD General Secretary Bhola Yadav, and it was unanimously approved by the party's National Executive. The meeting was attended by RJD chief Lalu Yadav, Rabri Devi, Sanjay Yadav, and Misa Bharti, along with other RJD office-bearers.

"Dawn of a new era! Tejashwi Yadav has been appointed as the National Executive President of Rashtriya Janata Dal," the RJD said in a message on social media.

What did RJD leaders say?

Before the meeting, RJD leaders, while speaking to the media, had said that if a proposal to make Tejashwi Yadav the working president came up, it would be fully supported. They also said that the meeting would discuss strengthening the organization and review the reasons for the party's recent electoral defeats.

Despite various allegations and internal family conflicts, Tejashwi Yadav arrived at the National Executive meeting with his close associate Sanjay Yadav.

"If a proposal to make Tejashwi Yadav the working president comes up, it will be supported," RJD spokesperson Chitranjan Gagan said.

Former MLA Mukesh Roshan also expressed the same view, stating that Tejashwi Yadav is currently leading the party and his appointment as working president would be welcomed. MLA Sarvajeet Kumar and former Union Minister Jayprakash Yadav also highlighted the agenda of the meeting.

They said that the main discussion would focus on strengthening the organization and conducting a thorough review of the reasons for the party's defeat in the recent elections. The leaders believe that improving the organizational structure, increasing the activity of party workers, and formulating future strategies will be the main objectives of this meeting.

Was Lalu Yadav present?

It is reported that the meeting is being presided over by party supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav. The meeting, being held at the Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan Auditorium of Hotel Maurya, will be attended by more than 200 people, including 85 members of the National Executive and special invitees. Presidents of various states, MPs, MLAs, and MLCs are also participating. Representatives from more than 20 states have already arrived in Patna.
