National News: Bihar Assembly Elections 2025: The Election Commission recently informed that during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar, about 51 lakh names have been removed from the voter list of the state. This step has been taken due to reasons like death, migration, and double registration. According to the commission, 18 lakh voters have died, 26 lakh have changed their constituencies, and 7 lakh people were found registered at two places.
This information has been released two days before the publication of the draft voter list, which will be published on August 1. The Commission has said that every effort is being made to include all eligible voters in this list. Also, those who have filled their enumeration form will be included in the draft list, whether they have attached documents or not.
The opposition has expressed serious concern over the removal of names from the voter list in Bihar and has created a political controversy by linking it to electoral strategy. In response, the Election Commission has clarified that the process is completely transparent and inclusive. The Commission assured the public that adequate time and opportunity will be given to amend the voter list.
According to the commission, after the draft list is released, time from August 1 to September 1 will be given to the public to register objections or make any kind of correction. Those who have not filled the form till now can make a claim with a declaration in the prescribed format. The final voter list will be published on September 30.
An important point was also made that the enrollment of new voters will continue till the last date of the process. Its purpose is to ensure the right to vote for every eligible citizen. The Election Commission said that under this comprehensive campaign, about 1 lakh booth-level officers (BLOs), 4 lakh volunteers, and 1.5 lakh booth agents (BLAs) appointed by the district presidents of all 12 major political parties of the state are engaged in identifying and contacting the voters. Especially those people who are being identified who have not been able to submit the form till now or have been found absent at the address.
