BJP Appoints New State Chiefs For Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Tripura; Harsh Malhotra Gets Capital

New Delhi:  The Bharataiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday has changed the state presidents of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Tripura. Union Minister Harsh Malhotra has been appointed as the new president of its Delhi unit, replacing Virendra Sachdeva.

BJP National President Nitin Nabin on Thursday announced the appointment of new state unit presidents for four states, as a part of a wider organisational reshuffle. 

Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra has been appointed as the BJP President of Delhi, Archana Gupta was named as Haryana BJP chief, Sardar Kewal Singh Dhillon was appointed as the party's Punjab unit president and Abhishek Debroy was appointed president for BJP's Tripura unit.  

Who is Harsh Malhotra?

Harsh Malhotra, who is a Union Minister of State, has replaced Virendra Sachdeva as the new president of its Delhi unit. Virendra Sachdeva was elected as the MP from the East Delhi Lok Sabha seat, where the BJP had fielded him in place of Gautam Gambhir. He has served as the General Secretary of the Delhi BJP. He also served as the Mayor of the East MCD from 2015 to 2016. In 2012, Malhotra won the municipal councilor election from Welcome Colony in East Delhi. 

Who is Kewal Singh Dhillon?

In Punjab, the BJP has bet on a Jat Sikh candidate. Kewal Singh Dhillon hails from Barnala district and has been an MLA. He won the 2007 and 2012 assembly elections on a Congress ticket. He lost in 2017, and in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Bhagwant Mann defeated Kewal Singh Dhillon from Sangrur. In 2022, the Congress party denied Kewal Singh Dhillon a ticket and expelled him, after which he joined the BJP. Kewal Singh Dhillon will replace Sunil Jakhar.
