National News: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a significant step toward internal restructuring by appointing state election in-charges for three politically crucial states—Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal. This move comes ahead of an anticipated leadership change at the national level and follows growing speculation over the appointment of new state unit chiefs in 14 other states.

The official list of appointments was released on Thursday via the party’s X (formerly Twitter) handle.

Appointments of State Election Officials:

  • Maharashtra: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju
  • Uttarakhand: Union Minister Harsh Malhotra
  • West Bengal: Rajya Sabha MP and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad

These senior leaders will oversee the organizational elections in their respective states, ensuring a transparent and streamlined process. They have also been tasked with fostering internal coordination and facilitating a smooth transition in state units.

Chavan Likely to Be Named Full-Time Maharashtra President

In Maharashtra, another key development is on the horizon. Ravindra Chavan, the MLA from Dombivli (Thane district), who is currently serving as the acting state BJP president, is likely to be appointed as the full-time state chief.

Party insiders suggest that Chavan is being considered based on his organizational acumen, leadership capabilities, and rapport with the central leadership. His elevation is expected to bolster BJP’s preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.

National Leadership Shift Also Imminent

The organizational reshuffle isn’t confined to just three states. The BJP is in the process of appointing new presidents in 14 states, including politically vital regions such as Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Jharkhand.

Simultaneously, changes are anticipated at the national level. JP Nadda’s term as national president officially ended in June 2024, but it was extended until after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Now, the party is poised to elect a new national president before July 21, 2025.

Is This BJP’s First Step Toward Mission 2029?

According to political analysts, the BJP’s current organizational overhaul appears to be the first formal step toward Mission 2029. The leadership is keen to empower a new generation of leaders who are digitally adept, ideologically aligned, and enjoy grassroots credibility.

This transformation could inject fresh momentum among party cadres and make BJP’s electoral messaging more cohesive and future-ready.

Balancing Political and Social Equations

With these changes, BJP aims to strategically position leaders who can navigate regional and caste dynamics more effectively. In states like Maharashtra and Uttarakhand, where elections are approaching, strengthening the state machinery is crucial for the party’s roadmap. Meanwhile, Ravi Shankar Prasad’s appointment as the election officer for West Bengal sends a strong signal that the BJP is serious about expanding its footprint and playing a more assertive role as the principal opposition in the state.
