BRICS Summit 2026: Putin Reaches Delhi, Set to Meet PM Modi; Tight Security Across the Capital

New Delhi: Security arrangements have been made extremely tight for the 18th BRICS summit to be held on 12 and 13 September in the capital Delhi. Russian President Vladimir Putin has reached Delhi to attend the conference. Official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Randhir Jaiswal welcomed him by posting on social media platform X. Minister of State and Gonda MP KV Singh received Putin at the airport.

India and Russia have long had multifaceted relations. The relations between the two countries are based on a special and privileged strategic partnership. The eyes of the world will be on Delhi during the BRICS conference, hence security agencies have made elaborate arrangements to deal with any possible threat.

Why will New Delhi district remain sealed for three days?

In view of the BRICS summit, security arrangements will be very strict in New Delhi district from 11 to 13 September. During this period, movement of common people will be restricted in the district. Only those people who have permanent residence there or who need entry for some authorised work will be allowed entry.

Apart from the main venue Bharat Mandapam, special security arrangements have also been made at major hotels and airports. DCP level officers have been deployed at every important venue.

How many security personnel will handle the security of BRICS conference?

The responsibility of security of the conference has been entrusted to more than 17 thousand security personnel. These include about 15 thousand Delhi Policemen and more than 2 thousand paramilitary forces. The security system is divided into several levels, so that there is no lapse in the security of foreign guests.

A multi-layered security blanket has been prepared in coordination with foreign security agencies and central agencies. Special surveillance will be maintained during the journey of foreign leaders from the time they reach the airport to their hotels and event venues.

Will there be a ban on flying drones in Delhi?

In view of security, there will be a complete ban on flying drones and any kind of unauthorised flying objects in sensitive areas related to the conference. Security agencies will continuously monitor through modern surveillance systems and cameras.

During VVIP movement, security arrangements will be monitored from the command and control room. Special emergency response teams will also be deployed to deal with any emergency.

Will traffic be affected by VVIP movement?

Traffic may be temporarily stopped or diverted on some roads in Delhi during the movement of foreign guests and other VVIPs during the BRICS conference. Delhi Police has appealed to the people to check the traffic advisory before leaving home and use alternative routes if necessary.

Metro services will continue normally. However, temporary restrictions or special instructions regarding exits may be imposed at some metro stations during security and VVIP movement. Passengers will be given this information inside the metro itself.

Security increased on which borders of Delhi?

In view of the BRICS conference, security has also been increased on the major borders of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh adjacent to Delhi. Additional deployment of traffic police along with police stations has been made at major entry routes of Western, Outer, East and South Delhi.

Vehicles are being checked by barricading at many places. Special blockade has also been prepared at major entry points. Additional police personnel have been deployed at Singhu and Auchandi border, while checking of vehicles and people is underway at Tikri border.

Security has also been increased at Ghazipur, Chilla, Apsara and Bhopura borders of East Delhi. At present, there was normal traffic in Badarpur and Kalindi Kunj, but preparations have been made for special blockade from night on the major entry routes.

How will the security be in Delhi during BRICS conference?

There will be multiple layers of security at the airport, hotel, venue and VVIP route during the BRICS summit. Foreign security agencies will also coordinate with the police and central security agencies. Surveillance on people moving in and out of the capital has been increased and security agencies are on full alert mode to deal with any suspicious activity.
