In a significant breakthrough, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have successfully foiled another major gold smuggling attempt for the second consecutive day along the India-Bangladesh international border in West Bengal. Alert troops from Jeetpur Border Outpost under the 59th Battalion of the South Bengal Frontier seized 20 gold biscuits in North 24 Parganas district. The total weight of the gold is 2.367 kilograms, with an estimated market value of Rs 2,31,22,756.70.

During the operation, the smuggler managed to escape, taking advantage of the moment, but the jawans recovered the gold that was cleverly concealed inside the rear tyre of a bicycle. This action took place around 5:30 PM on June 25.

How Was the Gold Caught?

BSF jawans were on a routine patrol when they spotted a suspicious individual riding a bicycle and crossing the border fence to enter Indian territory.

As the personnel initiated a security check, they noticed an unusual bulge in the rear tire of the bicycle, which raised suspicion. The suspect immediately abandoned the bicycle and fled toward Kashipur village.

20 Gold Biscuits Hidden in the Tyre

After conducting a search operation at the location, the jawans recovered 20 gold biscuits hidden inside the bicycle's rear tyre. The seized gold was taken to Ranghat Border Outpost for further legal action.

Second Major Smuggling Attempt Foiled in Two Days

Notably, on June 24, 2025, a day earlier, BSF personnel from the 67th Battalion had seized gold worth approximately Rs2.43 crore at the Lakhanpur Border Outpost. This marks the second major success in as many days for BSF, highlighting growing concerns over increasing smuggling activity along the border areas.

Public Appeal and Rewards for Information

The Public Relations Officer of the South Bengal Frontier praised the jawans for their vigilance and success, stating that BSF personnel are fully alert, capable, and committed to preventing illegal activities along the border.

He also appealed to border residents to share any information related to gold smuggling by calling BSF’s ‘Seema Saathi’ helpline at 14419 or sending a message/voice note on WhatsApp number 9903472227. He assured that informants would be appropriately rewarded and their identity would remain strictly confidential.
