Budget Session: PM Modi to Brief Media Ahead of Economic Survey

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Thursday brief the media at the Parliament complex, just hours before the government presents the Economic Survey for 2026-27.

Where will the PM address?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the media at around 10 am at Hans Dwar in the Parliament complex. This briefing is expected to outline the government’s priorities for the session ahead of the Budget.

What did President Droupadi Murmu say during the address?

The Budget Session 2026-27 started on Wednesday with President Droupadi Murmu addressing both Houses. 

In the address, she outlined the Union government’s vision for social justice, inclusive growth, and a developed India.

During the address, President Murmu said she was "delighted to address Parliament." She even recalled that the previous year was memorable for celebrating India’s rapid progress and rich heritage.

"For employment and development in rural areas, Viksit Bharat-G RAM G law has been formed. With this new reform, there will be 125 days of employment guarantees in villages," President Droupadi Murmu said.

Why Is the Economic Survey Important?

The Economic Survey 2026-27 will be presented on Thursday in the parliament. This annual report reviews India's economic performance over the past year,  ahead of the Union Budget on February 1. 

The document is prepared by the Finance Ministry's economic team under the Chief Economic Adviser and is tabled in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. 

When will the budget be presented?

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget for 2026-27 on February 1, marking one of the rare occasions when the Budget speech falls on a weekend. 

With this Nirmala Sitharaman will become the first finance minister of the country to present the general budget nine consecutive times.  

The Budget Session is scheduled in two parts, the first phase from January 28 to February 13, and the second phase from March 9 to April 2.
