Centre issues clarification on LPG refill booking timeline amid rumours

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, the government on Wednesday issued a clarification statement regarding changes in Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) refill booking rules for different categories of consumers.

What did the government say?

In the clarification statement, government said that the claims, including alleged limits such as 45 days for PMUY users, 25 days for single-cylinder households, and 35 days for double-cylinder connections, are incorrect.

The government also said that it is making all attempts to address the hardship caused by the LPG shortage.

What were the reports?

According to some news reports and social media posts claims, for PMUY (Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana) connections, the LPG refill booking timeline has been revised to 45 days, 25 days for non-PMUY single-bottle connections, and 35 days for non-PMUY double-bottle connections. 

According to the government clarification statement, the existing refill booking timelines remain unchanged, at 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas, irrespective of connection type. 

"Citizens are advised not to believe or circulate such misinformation and to avoid unnecessary or panic booking of LPG refills. It is reiterated that adequate LPG stocks are available in the country, and there is no cause for concern," the government said.

What about domestic LPG production?

Even after LPG supply remains under pressure, the government said that domestic LPG production has been stepped up, with no reported dry-outs at distributorships.

Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said that petrol pumps across the country remain fully functional.
