Pune: A trainer aircraft crash landed at Baramati airport in Pune this afternoon. This accident happened seven months after the then Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was killed in a similar accident on January 28.
The accident happened at Baramati Airfield in Maharashtra. A trainer plane skidded off the runway during a training exercise at Baramati Airfield in Maharashtra at around 12:35 pm. Captain Chirag Shashikant Doifode and Cadet Abhijeet Jundre were on board the trainer aircraft. Both Captain Chirag Shashikant Doifode and Cadet Abhijeet Jundre are safe. No injuries were reported.
According to the Pune Police the trainer aircraft was undergoing circuit. Landing emergency training when it overshot the threshold of Runway 29 and then went off the paved runway. The police and administration officials arrived at the scene soon as they received information about the trainer aircraft incident. The initial information indicates that the incident was a runway excursion meaning the trainer aircraft may have exceeded the runways designated limits. The exact cause of the trainer aircraft accident is not yet clear. The matter is under investigation.
The police said that the trainer aircraft, VT-SEX was involved in a runway excursion incident at Baramati Airfield during a training exercise with Captain Chirag Shashikant Doifode and Cadet Abhijeet Jundre on board the trainer aircraft. No injuries have been reported said senior police officer Sandeep Singh Gill.
The trainer aircraft initially entered the runway through Link Bravo lined up at the threshold of Runway 29 and carried out a rejected take-off. Thereafter the trainer aircraft was lined up at the threshold of Runway 11 where another rejected take-off was carried out. During the course of this exercise the trainer aircraft could not be brought to a stop on the runway and continued beyond the threshold of Runway 29. Subsequently it veered off the extended paved surface to the side beyond the Runway 29 threshold said senior police officer Sandeep Singh Gill.
On January 28 of this year, the plane carrying then Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar crashed while landing at Baramati Airport. Five people, including Ajit Pawar died in the plane accident.
Previously on May 13 2026 a Redbird training aircraft crash-landed near Baramati Airport. The Redbird training aircraft landed near Gojubabi village. Struck a power pole before landing. There was one trainee pilot, on board the Redbird training aircraft, who was not seriously injured.
