New Delhi: On Saturday, the central government took a big decision. Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani has been made the country's new CDS i.e. Chief of Defense Staff. The tenure of the current CDS – General Anil Chauhan – is ending on 30 May 2026. After that, Raja Subramani will take over this chair. Along with this, he will also look after the responsibility of secretary to the government in the Department of Defense Affairs.
Raja Subramani is not a new face in the army. Since September 2025, he has been a military advisor in the National Security Council Secretariat. Before that, he was the Deputy Chief of the Army for a year and even before that, he commanded the Central Command. In simple language, he has worked on almost every major front of the army. That is why the government expressed this confidence in him after careful consideration.
Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan will take charge of the Navy. Presently, he is the Western Naval Commander in Mumbai. He will begin work as the new Navy chief on May 31, and his tenure will last till December 2028.
Krishna Swaminathan, who joined the Navy on July 1, 1987, has been in this uniform for almost four decades. He is considered an expert in communications and electronic warfare. From Pune's NDA to America's Naval War College - he has taken training in big institutes in the country and abroad. After such a long and experience-filled journey, he is now getting the responsibility of the entire Navy.
If seen, this is not just a change of two names. The government has given the biggest responsibilities of the country's security to those who have been in the field for years. Such officers who have learned not from books but from actual experience. This experience will be useful to the country in the times to come.
National security never stops; only leadership changes. And this time this change has been done very thoughtfully, giving priority to experience.
