Uttar Pardesh: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a proposal to rename Mustafabad village as Kabirdham during the Smriti Prakatyotsav Mela-2025 on Monday. The event was held in Lakhimpur Kheri district. The Chief Minister said the village has deep cultural and historical links with Sant Kabir Das, which makes the proposed new name more meaningful.
Speaking at the gathering, Adityanath shared that locals told him there is no Muslim population in Mustafabad. This made him question the reason behind its current name. “When I learned that no Muslims live here, I thought the place should reflect its true heritage. Therefore, it will be renamed Kabirdham to restore its real identity,” he said. The Chief Minister emphasized that this change would honor Sant Kabir Das, the 15th-century poet and saint who preached equality and harmony.
Yogi Adityanath criticized earlier governments, particularly the Congress, for altering the traditional names of several places. He said, “They made Ayodhya into Faizabad, Prayagraj into Allahabad, and Kabirdham into Mustafabad. Our government has worked to bring back their original identities.” The Chief Minister reminded the audience that under his leadership, Allahabad was renamed Prayagraj and Faizabad became Ayodhya to restore cultural pride.
The Smriti Prakatyotsav Mela celebrated the life and teachings of Sant Kabir Das, whose spiritual philosophy continues to inspire people across India. The proposed name change aims to honor his role in promoting unity and devotion through his verses and values.
Before attending the event, Yogi Adityanath conducted a ‘Janta Darshan’ in Lucknow to address public grievances. A day earlier, he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President J.P. Nadda in Delhi. Sharing his gratitude on X, he thanked both leaders for their guidance and support. The Chief Minister also directed officials to ensure smooth arrangements for the upcoming Garh Ganga Mela 2025 and instructed that no obscene songs be played during cultural events.
