Mumbai Police Nab Dawood Associate Salim Sheikh, Deported from Dubai in Rs 256 Crore Drug Case

Earlier this year, an alleged supplier of chemicals and materials used in the manufacture of party drug mephedrone (MD) worth Rs 250 crore in Sangli district was extradited from the UAE in an operation coordinated by Mumbai police, CBI and Interpol.

National News: In a major breakthrough, the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested Dawood Ibrahim’s aide, Mohammad Salim Suhail Sheikh, after he was deported from Dubai. The accused had been operating a drug network in India while residing in Dubai. Investigations revealed his link to a Mephedrone manufacturing factory in Sangli district.

Woman Caught Supplying Drugs in Kurla

On February 16, 2024, the Mumbai Crime Branch received information that a woman was supplying drugs in the Kurla area. Acting on the tip-off, police arrested Parveen Bano Ghulam Sheikh and recovered 641 grams of Mephedrone worth Rs 12.20 lakh along with Rs 12 lakh in cash. During interrogation, she admitted that the drugs were supplied through the network operated by Salim Sheikh and Salim Dola from Dubai.

Another Arrest in Mira Road

Following this lead, police arrested Sajid Mohammad Asif Sheikh alias Dabz from Mira Road. During the raid at his residence, officials seized 3 kilograms of MD drugs worth Rs 6 crore and Rs 3.68 lakh in cash. Further investigation revealed that the entire network was linked to the drug factory located in Sangli.

Huge Drug Seizure in Sangli

On March 25, 2024, police raided the Sangli factory and seized 122.5 kilograms of Mephedrone worth Rs 245 crore. The team also confiscated machines, raw materials, and arrested six people involved in the operation. So far, a total of 15 accused have been arrested in this case. Police have seized assets worth Rs 256.49 crore, including 126 kilograms of drugs, Rs 4.19 crore in cash, and several vehicles.

Red Corner Notice and Extradition

A Red Corner Notice had been issued against Salim Sheikh earlier. He was caught in Dubai a few weeks ago and brought back to India after completing legal formalities. On October 22, he was arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch and presented before the court, which has sent him to police custody till October 30.
