Delhi: The claim of an acid attack made by a second-year B.Com student of Delhi University turned out to be completely false. Investigation revealed that the student had fabricated this story at the behest of her father, Akil Khan. Akil wanted to take revenge for the rape case filed against him, so he got his daughter to spread this lie. Police arrested Akil Khan on Monday.

What was the initial allegation of the student?

The student had alleged on Sunday morning that three people—Jitendra, Ishaan, and Armaan—threw acid on her when she was going for extra classes. Later investigation revealed that Ishaan and Armaan are relatives of the student. Police found a big difference between the student's statement and Jitendra's location. Jitendra was present in Karol Bagh at that time, while the alleged attack was reported to be in the Bhalswa Dairy area.

What is the story of the rape case and revenge?

According to the police, Jitendra's wife had already accused the student's father, Akil Khan, of rape. The woman said that she worked in Akil's socks factory from 2021 to 2024, where he sexually harassed her and blackmailed her with personal photographs. Although he had made a PCR call, no written complaint was lodged. After this allegation, Akil made his daughter make up a false story to take revenge.

How was the false conspiracy of acid attacks hatched?

During police interrogation, Akil admitted that he had himself made up the story of being attacked with a toilet cleaner. The student came out of her house with toilet cleaner, and after getting down from the e-rickshaw, poured the liquid on her hands and started shouting so as to attract people's attention. Later it was claimed that three people had thrown acid on him. But the investigation found neither any traces of acid nor any evidence of the presence of any accused.

What evidence did the police find?

No acid bottle was recovered from the spot, nor was any suspect visible in the CCTV footage. The forensic team also did not find any chemical traces from there. At the same time, the two brothers—Ishaan and Armaan—whose names the student had taken, were in Agra at that time with their mother, Shabnam. Interestingly, in 2018, Shabnam had also accused Akil Khan of rape, which is still pending in the court.

Was there already a dispute between the two families?

Yes, according to the police, there is a long-standing dispute between the two families regarding property in the Mangolpuri area. Shabnam had earlier also accused Akil Khan of attacking her with acid, on which an FIR was registered. Now the same family is face-to-face again in a new dispute.

What will be the next step?

The police is now investigating the entire case on the basis of technical and forensic evidence. Senior officials are investigating who misled the student and why. The investigation team says that many aspects are still incomplete, but the truth will be revealed soon.
