New Delhi: Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has announced an increase in CNG prices in Delhi and surrounding cities. According to the company, the price of CNG will increase by Rs 3.89 per kg from 6 am on Saturday. Apart from Delhi-NCR, the new prices will also be applicable in other related areas of the company.

By how much have the prices of CNG been increased?

According to IGL, the price of CNG has been increased by Rs 3.89 per kg. This increase will be effective from 6 am on Saturday. After this, people driving vehicles on CNG will have to spend more than before.

Why was there a need to increase the price of CNG?

The company said that a large part of the natural gas required to prepare CNG is met by imported LNG. The cost of gas has increased due to the rise in the prices of LNG in the international market.

What impact did the conflict in West Asia have on CNG?

According to IGL, due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, there has been increased pressure on LNG prices in the international market. Due to imported LNG becoming expensive, the cost of CNG at domestic level has also increased.

Why are LNG prices important in the international market?

India fulfils a part of its natural gas requirement through imports. In such a situation, the increase in the price of LNG in the international market has a direct impact on the cost of gas. IGL said that it had become necessary to increase the prices of CNG to compensate for the increased costs.

When will the new CNG price be implemented?

According to the information released by IGL, the increased prices of CNG will come into effect from 6 am on Saturday. That means drivers filling CNG after this time will have to pay the increased rate.

Who will be affected by CNG becoming expensive?

The most direct impact of the increase in the price of CNG can be on people driving CNG cars, autos and taxis. Additionally, rising transportation costs are also likely to have an indirect impact on the prices of some services and goods.

Note: The new prices of CNG may vary as per the respective city and region. Drivers can confirm the new rate applicable in their area before refuelling.
