Heavy rains disrupt flight operations at Delhi airport, many flights cancelled; What did the airlines say?

Air services were affected due to heavy rains and strong winds in Delhi-NCR on Monday. 6 flights were cancelled and more than 30 were delayed at IGI Airport. Airlines issued advisories advising passengers to check their flight status. Delhi-NCR weather:  Due to torrential rains and strong winds in Delhi-NCR on Monday, life was badly affected. The biggest impact was seen on air services, where many flights were delayed and many had to be cancelled at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport).

According to the Delhi Airport Authority, till 6:50 pm on September 1, at least 6 flights were cancelled from IGI Airport, while more than 30 flights were delayed. At the same time, four flights from Ghaziabad's Hindon Airport also could not take off on time. Due to this, passengers had to wait for a long time and many travel plans were disrupted.

Airlines issued travel advisory

In view of the continuously deteriorating weather, airlines issued advisories to passengers. Indigo, Air India, Akasa Air and SpiceJet appealed to passengers on their official social media accounts to check the status of their flights before reaching the airport. IndiGo said that passengers should plan their journey in advance and confirm the status of the flight. Our teams are deployed at the airport to assist the passengers.

SpiceJet and Air India warning

SpiceJet informed that all departures and arrivals may be affected due to bad weather at Delhi airport. They advised passengers to keep an eye on the flight status keeping in mind the possible changes.

At the same time, Air India said that flight operations may be disrupted due to rain in Delhi. Passengers are requested to check the flight status on the official website before going to the airport and travel with extra time.

Akasa Air also warned

Akasa Air alerted passengers not only from Delhi but also from Kolkata and Ahmedabad. The airline said that due to heavy rains, there is jam and slow traffic on the roads leading to the airports. Passengers are requested to start the journey with extra time.

Meteorological department issued alert

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued yellow and orange alerts for Delhi and surrounding areas on Monday. The department had already warned that moderate to heavy rains and strong winds may occur along with thunderstorms. An orange alert was issued in all the districts of Delhi which remained effective till 7 pm. At the same time, an orange alert was implemented for Noida, Gurugram and Faridabad and a yellow alert for Ghaziabad.

Waterlogging and jam on the roads too

The impact of rain was not limited to air services only. Waterlogging occurred at many places in Gurugram, Noida and Faridabad, which disrupted traffic. In the pictures received from Rajiv Chowk, Gurugram, cars and buses were seen stuck in water.

Difficulties increased for passengers

The sudden change in weather created problems for the passengers. Many people had to postpone their travel due to cancellation of their flights, while those with delayed flights had to wait for a long time at the airport.
