New Delhi: An important thing has come to light in the investigation regarding accused terrorist Umar Un Nabi in the Delhi blast case. It is learned that before the blast, he had gone to Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque located near Turkman Gate. According to sources, he was present inside the mosque for about 15 minutes. His presence has been recorded in the cameras installed there. Police are now trying to find out why he went there and what he did during that time.
Meanwhile, late on Tuesday night, Delhi Municipal Corporation started the work of removing illegal constructions around Ramlila Maidan. Suddenly heavy machines reached Turkman Gate area. Demolition was started with about 10 bulldozers and more than 15 JCBs.
As soon as the demolition work started, people from nearby started gathering. The crowd increased outside the mosque also. Some people raised slogans and protested. Within no time the atmosphere became tense.
The police took charge before the situation worsened. DCP-level officers were called from nine districts for this operation. About one thousand policemen were deployed at the spot. More than 70 dumpers and about 150 employees were deployed by the Municipal Corporation to remove the debris.
During the action some people threw stones at the police. Five policemen were injured in this incident. Officials say that the number of people throwing stones was not much. Now they are being identified with the help of cameras, and a case will be registered after the statement of the injured.
Keeping security in mind, all the roads leading to Ramlila Maidan have been closed. If conditions remain normal, traffic can be started on some roads in the morning.
0.195 acres of land belonging to Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque was not touched during the operation. The remaining illegal constructions, including libraries, dispensaries and banquet halls, were removed.
At present there is a heavy police force present in the area. The situation is under control. As a precautionary measure, Section 164 of the Indian Penal Code has been imposed and the police are keeping an eye on the entire area.
