National News: Recently, earthquake tremors have been reported more frequently in different parts of India. To improve public awareness and test emergency responses, a major mock drill is being carried out in Delhi today. The drill is being organized by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and will take place at 55 different locations across 11 districts of the capital.
The main goal is to help people learn how to respond quickly and safely if an earthquake hits. It’s also a way for the government to test how prepared its departments are to handle such emergencies.
This drill brings together several key departments and rescue teams:
The mock drill started at 10 AM and will continue throughout the day. Some parts of Delhi will see changes in traffic and emergency services during the drill. People may see activities at schools, hospitals, office buildings, and residential areas as part of the drill.
Teams will act out earthquake situations and rescue people from buildings, treat injuries, and set up relief centers. The drill will also include emergency evacuations in busy areas.
Some of the key locations include
Other schools and high-rise buildings in Central, South, and East Delhi
Before starting, all teams gathered in Central Delhi and were sent to assigned locations.
Delhi lies in an area that is prone to earthquakes. Small tremors have already been felt in the past few months. That's why this kind of practice is important—not just for emergency teams, but also for ordinary people.
This drill helps the administration test what works and what doesn’t during a real disaster. It also helps officials and the public work together better during emergencies.
Officials have asked people not to panic during the mock drill. Instead, they are encouraged to take part and follow safety instructions. This is a learning opportunity for everyone, and such practice helps build a safer, more prepared city.
Preparedness is the best way to face natural disasters. This large-scale earthquake mock drill is a major step toward that goal. It will strengthen Delhi’s emergency systems and help people learn how to protect themselves and others during a crisis.
