Delhi flood alert: Delhi has been receiving heavy rainfall since September 1. The Yamuna river crossed the danger mark of 205.33 meters on Tuesday morning, September 2. Its level may rise further by evening. Meanwhile, Gurugram received more than 100 mm of rain in just four hours on Monday, leaving major areas like Hero Honda Chowk and Dwarka Expressway submerged.

The Yamuna river breached its banks in Yamuna Bazaar and moved ahead. Due to this, water started entering residential colonies and people were forced to go to relief camps.

River water level at 6 am

At 6 am, the water level of the river was recorded at 205.68 metres, which is above the danger mark of 205.33 metres. A warning has been issued that the water level may rise to around 206.50 metres by 5 pm.

What is the reason

A huge amount of water is being released every hour from Haryana's Hathinikund Barrage. This has increased the risk of flooding in the low-lying areas of the capital. An alert has been issued for sensitive areas.

Which way not to go

The District Magistrate of Shahdara has ordered the closure of traffic and public movement on Loha Pul from 5 pm on Tuesday due to rising water level in Yamuna.

Schools, offices closed in Gurugram

Heavy rains occurred in Gurugram on Monday. Waterlogging and traffic jams started occurring at many places in the city. Normal life was disrupted. More than 100 mm of rain was recorded in the city between 3 pm and 7 pm.

In view of the situation, an orange alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rain today on September 2. The District Disaster Management Authority advised schools to start online classes. Private offices were instructed to allow employees to work from home on Tuesday.

The Meteorological Department has predicted cloudy weather and moderate rain in Delhi on Tuesday. Today's maximum temperature is expected to be around 31 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature is likely to be 22 degrees Celsius.
