National News: As soon as the rainy season arrived, dengue cases started increasing rapidly. As of July, the number of patients in the district was less than 50, but the situation started changing in August, and by the beginning of September, the figure reached 93. Experts say that both the rain and negligence together are making the situation serious.
The health department report shows that in August itself, the number of dengue patients increased by more than 40 percent. On Monday, the maximum number of 17 new cases was reported in the district, which is the largest daily figure ever. On August 31, 14 patients were found, while before that only one or two cases were being reported for fifteen days. Suddenly this fast has become a matter of concern for the health department.
In view of the increasing number of patients, District Malaria Officer Shrutikirti Verma said that 20 teams have been deployed in both urban and rural areas. These teams are going to the mohallas and villages and are checking the water stored in coolers, pots, tubs, containers, and drains. Apart from this, local people are being appealed to not deposit water and maintain regular cleanliness.
Private hospitals have also been instructed to send samples of every suspected dengue patient so that the correct figures can be collected and timely control steps can be taken. The department has admitted that the next two months can be very challenging, and people will have to take special care.
If we look at the previous years, in 2024, 604 patients were found in the district in 2024, out of which more than 460 cases were reported in just three months (August to October). In 2023, this number was even higher, and a total of 993 patients were recorded. At the same time, 567 cases were reported in 2022 and 667 cases in 2021. In the current year 2025, 93 patients have been received so far, and the health department believes that this number may increase further.
Senior physician Dr. Anurag Sagar says that dengue symptoms include high fever, muscle pain, weakness, and skin rash. On seeing such symptoms, take the patient to the doctor immediately. Taking or investigating without consultation can prove dangerous.
He advised that people should not allow water to accumulate in and around their home. Keep the body completely covered, consume more fluids, and use mosquito nets or repellent to avoid mosquitoes. These steps can help avoid the increasing danger of dengue.
