Delhi-NCR Rain Alert: Heavy Rain Likely Today, IMD Warns 17 States; Char Dham Yatra Hit

New Delhi: Monsoon has once again become active in the country. There is heavy rain in many states of North India including Delhi-NCR on Saturday, September 5. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab today. For Delhi, there is a warning of heavy rain on both 5th and 6th September.

Will it rain in Delhi-NCR today?

It will be cloudy the whole day and there will be heavy rain in between. According to IMD, today there may be moderate to heavy rain along with thunderstorms. The heavy rain on Friday had worsened the condition of Delhi. Many places were filled with knee-deep water, there was traffic jam and many flights had to be diverted.

Why has the concern increased in UP-Bihar?

Due to continuous rains, rivers are in spate in UP and Bihar. There are conditions like waterlogging and floods in low-lying areas. The Meteorological Department has also predicted rain in Eastern and Central India, so the problem may increase further in the areas which are already submerged. People have been asked to stay away from rivers and streams.

In which states is there an alert of heavy rain?

Today is going to be a heavy day for North and Central India. The weather will be bad in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, UP, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Himachal, Rajasthan and MP. There is a warning of very heavy rain in eastern Rajasthan and western MP. Heavy rains may also occur in some parts of Eastern India.

How is the situation in Uttarakhand?

The danger is more in the mountains. There is an alert of heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning in Uttarakhand from 5 to 10 September. There is a danger of landslides, many roads may be closed.

Will Chardham Yatra be affected?

Chardham Yatra becomes difficult in bad weather. IMD has warned of heavy rain along with lightning and strong winds on September 5 and this trend will continue for several days. The administration has asked the travellers not to start the journey without seeing the latest advisory.

How will the weather be in the coming days?

There is an alert of heavy rain in Delhi on September 6 also, but relief is expected from September 7 and there is no special warning. At the same time, rains will continue for several days in Uttarakhand, hence people living in hilly areas will have to be more careful.
