New Delhi: There is a sign of relief that now 13 districts will be formed in Delhi instead of 11, and there will be 39 subdivisions instead of 33. The government says that this will make administrative work easier, and citizens will have to go through fewer offices. The proposal has been approved on a pilot basis by the state cabinet and is now pending the approval of the lieutenant governor. After this change, work will be done on a model like a mini-secretariat in every district, through which citizens will be able to get most of the government services at one place, and there will be less paperwork and running around as compared to before.
The government has delimited the districts according to municipal corporation zones so that when needed, service providers, grievance redressal, and administrative offices are present at one place. For example, names like “Old Delhi,” “Civil Lines,” and “Najafgarh” are included. In this new proposal, most of the districts are being given names according to the zones of the corporation, due to which both local identity and administrative ease have been kept in mind.
People in Delhi often face long queues for complaints, registrations, and offices as they have to visit different offices. The proposed change will ensure that the citizen gets most of the services in a single mini-secretariat or office. According to officials, this system will make the work and public service process easier.
The government said that the zone structure of the corporation has been kept in mind while naming the new districts so that the identity of the administration and local people can be better. Most of the names will be the same zone names. For example, most of the areas of the “South-West” zone will now come under the “Najafgarh” district.
The proposal will now go to the lieutenant governor. After getting their approval, notification of new districts and subdivisions will be issued. Once it is implemented, there will be administrative changes like office distribution, employee inauguration and enrollment, etc. Each district is targeted at providing better coordination, settlement, and people-centric services.
