Delhi riots conspiracy case: Prime accused Sharjeel Imam granted interim bail

A Delhi court has granted 10 days interim bail to Sharjeel Imam in the Delhi riots conspiracy case.

New Delhi: In a major development, a Delhi court has granted 10 days of interim bail to Sharjeel Imam in the Delhi riots conspiracy case. Sharjeel Imam who was arrested in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case, has reportedly been  granted bail to attend his brother's wedding and take care of his ailing mother.

Why was Sharjeel Imam arrested?

Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid were arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for allegedly inciting the 2020 Delhi riots. A case has been registered against them under several sections of the Act, including Section 15A.

On January 5 this year, the Supreme Court had denied bail to both Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam. However, five other accused in the same case were granted bail. Those granted bail include Gulfisha Fatima, Meeran Haider, Shifa-ur-Rehman, Mohammad Salim Khan and Shadab Ahmed.
