National News: There has been an earthquake in Delhi politics once again. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has now issued summonses to former ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain over the alleged scam in the construction of classrooms in government schools. The estimated amount of this scam is being said to be Rs 2000 crore. This move by ACB has brought another legal crisis for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
The ACB had registered an FIR in late April alleging that there were irregularities in the construction of about 12,748 classrooms in government schools under the Delhi government. This construction work was done as a semi-permanent structure. It is alleged that the cost of construction was deliberately increased and contracts were given without proper procedure, leading to misuse of government funds.
The ACB has summoned Satyendra Jain for questioning on June 6 and Manish Sisodia on June 9. The ACB claims that they have some documents that can clarify the role of these two leaders. Sisodia had the responsibility of the Ministry of Education and Finance at that time, while Jain was handling the PWD, Urban Development, Home, and Health departments.
The Aam Aadmi Party has directly linked the ACB action to the BJP and called it “political revenge action.” AAP spokespersons say that the central government is nervous about the popularity of the Delhi government and is misusing institutions like the ACB. The party also alleged that the BJP is working to defame opposition leaders and suppress democratic institutions.
This matter has come to light at a time when the heat of assembly elections has started in Delhi. Political analysts believe that this issue can become a big part of the election discourse in the coming time. If the ACB brings out concrete evidence in this case, it can prove to be a serious challenge for the AAP.
The Aam Aadmi Party, which has set an example of improvement in Delhi schools, is now under serious question. After the ACB action, it will be important to see in which direction the investigation goes and whether it is only the politics of allegations or a big scam that will actually come to light. At present, there is a lot of activity in Delhi politics, and the eyes of the public are fixed on this matter.
