Sneha Debnath, a student of Delhi University who had been missing for the past six days, has been found dead. Her body was recovered today from the Yamuna River. According to Delhi Police, the body was found floating near the Geeta Colony flyover on Sunday evening. Sneha’s identity was confirmed by her family.
Sneha was 19 years old and originally from Tripura. She was residing at the Environmental Complex in South Delhi. She was a student of Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College and had been missing since the morning of July 7. She last spoke to her family that morning at 5:56 AM, informing them that she was going to Sarai Rohilla Railway Station with her friend Pitunia. Shortly after, her phone was switched off.
When her family tried to contact her and failed, they reached out to Pitunia, who said that she had not met Sneha that day at all. This raised concern, and the family began searching for her on their own. Investigation later revealed that Sneha had been dropped near Signature Bridge by a cab driver, but there was no clear CCTV footage available from the area to trace her further.
On July 9, the Delhi Police launched a search operation around Signature Bridge with the help of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), but they were unsuccessful. Meanwhile, the police recovered a note from Sneha that suggested she had planned to jump from the Signature Bridge.
Following the incident, the office of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha also took cognizance of the matter and issued instructions to the Delhi Police to take prompt and appropriate action.
