New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing tension in West Asia, there remains uncertainty regarding ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Many oil and gas tankers are stranded in this strategic sea route. In such a situation, news of relief for India has come to light. Iran has allowed two Indian flagged LPG tankers to pass safely through Hormuz. These ships include 'Shivalik' and 'Nanda Devi', which are heading towards India with about 92,700 metric tonnes of LPG.

Did the talks open the way for Indian ships?

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said that this has been possible because of the continuous dialogue between India and Iran. He said that some positive results have emerged through talks and this process is still going on. According to him, diplomatic negotiations prove to be the most effective method in such circumstances.

Are different permissions being given for each ship?

Jaishankar also clarified that no comprehensive or permanent arrangement has been made with Iran for Indian ships. He said the movement of each ship was being looked at as an individual case. That is, if one ship gets permission, it does not mean that all the ships will automatically get passage.

Did Iran ask for anything in return from India?

The Foreign Minister clearly denied that Iran had demanded any concession or deal from India in exchange for giving way to Indian ships. He said that India and Iran have had relations for a long time and on the basis of this trust, dialogue between the two countries has progressed.

Did the prime minister-level talks also have any impact?

According to sources, the impact of the talks held at the top level in this matter was also seen. There was a phone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in which energy supplies and security of sea routes were discussed. After this, Indian tankers got permission to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

When will both the gas tankers reach India?

Indian flagged tankers 'Shivalik' and 'Nanda Devi' are coming to India carrying around 92,700 metric tonnes of LPG. Of these, the 'Shivalik' tanker is expected to reach Mundra port, while 'Nanda Devi' may reach Kandla port. The safe passage of both ships is being seen as a big relief in the current situation.
