Patna: In the middle of Bihar polls, the Election Commission has asked for a report from the state's DGP Vinay Kumar over the killing of Jan Suraj worker and strongman Dularchand Yadav in Mokama. On Thursday, during a campaign rally in Mokama, a clash broke out between two groups, leading to the death of Dularchand, who was backing Jan Suraj hopeful Piyush Priyadarshi. An FIR has been filed against JD(U) candidate and former MLA Anant Singh along with five others in this matter.
Tension flared up again in Mokama earlier today. During the funeral march for Dularchand Yadav, stones were thrown at the vehicle of RJD candidate and strongman Surajbhan's wife. Her car got badly damaged in the attack. Surajbhan and Veena Devi have urged the Election Commission to step in on this issue. Meanwhile, Anant Singh is pointing fingers at Surajbhan for being behind the incident.
Leader of the opposition Tejashwi Yadav has raised concerns, asking where the administration is and who is shielding the thugs. He noted that a convoy of 40 vehicles was moving freely. He added that the Election Commission should take notice of the whole affair on its own.
Reports say the trouble began in Mokama's Tal zone, near Khushhal Chak, where Jan Suraj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi's group was passing by. He was doing a road show with hundreds of backers to drum up support. The muscleman Dularchand Yadav was right there with them. At that moment, JD(U) hopeful and strongman Anant Singh's convoy came along the same path. Soon, arguments broke out between the supporters of both sides.
In no time, the clash turned ugly. As tempers rose, people started throwing bricks and stones. They smashed the windows of several vehicles. Then shots were fired amid the chaos. During the brawl, one bullet struck Dularchand Yadav in the leg. He collapsed on the road. Right after, a vehicle ran over him, causing his death.
