Four Killed, 10 Others Injured As Bus Rams Into Tanker In Gujarat

According to police, the accident occurred at around 1:30 am near Sangani village on the Chotila-Rajkot National Highway.

Ahmedabad: About four people were killed and 10 others were injured after a luxury private bus carrying around 40 passengers caught fire after crashing into a tanker in Surendranagar district of Gujarat on Thursday morning. The injured were taken to Rajkot Civil Hospital. Traffic on the highway came to a complete halt for some time after the collision.

When did the incident happen?

According to police, the accident occurred at around 1:30 am near Sangani village on the Chotila-Rajkot National Highway. 

The police said that emergency responders rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, where medical teams are working urgently to stabilise them but the condition of victims is extremely serious.

What did police say?

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) S.S. Bhadoriya said that the accident occurred around 1:30 am near Sangani village on the Chotila-Rajkot National Highway. The private luxury bus was traveling from Ahmedabad to Rajkot when it collided with a tanker carrying asphalt ahead of it. Following the collision, the bus caught fire. Firefighters responded to the scene and brought the fire under control.

According to Bhadoriya, there were at least 40 passengers on the bus, many of whom were evacuated safely. 

"Four passengers were burnt alive in the collision between the private bus and the tanker filled with asphalt," he said. 

The injured persons were referred to Rajkot civil hospital, and the bodies were shifted to Chotila referral hospital for postmortem, he added.

Upon receiving news of the accident, Chotila Deputy Collector HT Makwana and his team immediately arrived at the scene. The administration immediately called in firefighters and brought the fire under control. According to reports, the bodies of the four passengers, who died from severe burns, were taken to the referral hospital for post-mortem examination.
