Goa: A massive fire broke out late at night in a nightclub in Arpora village of Goa, in which 23 people died. Most of those killed were employees who were present on the ground floor and in the kitchen area at the time of the fire. Many people got trapped in the smoke and could not come out.
Goa Police DGP Alok Kumar said that most of the bodies recovered so far have been found from the kitchen section. Initial investigation suspects that the fire might have started from there. Some bodies were also found on the stairs, which suggests that people were trying to get out.
Police believe that the cause of the fire could be a cylinder blast, but this will be confirmed only after investigation. The dead also include three women and three to four tourists.
Several fire brigade vehicles reached the spot immediately after the incident. The fire was controlled, but the smoke spread inside worsened the situation. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that three people died due to burning, while the rest died due to suffocation.
CM said that initial information shows that the club did not follow fire safety rules. He visited the incident site and issued orders for investigation. He said that any kind of negligence will not be tolerated.
Local people said that there was a lot of crowd in the club at the time of the fire. Those who were able to get out immediately informed the administration. Due to his timely information, many people's lives were saved.
The fire has been brought under control, but police and rescue teams are still carrying out search operations. The debris is being removed so that no one else gets trapped. The entire area has been sealed, and documents related to the club have been seized, and an investigation has been started.
