New Delhi: Delhi-based businessman brothers Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, who absconded after the nightclub fire in North Goa on December 5, are set to be brought to India today. A Goa Police official said that both will be deported from Thailand to Delhi, after which they will be taken into police custody.
A few hours after the fire incident, both the brothers had fled to Thailand. Later, at the request of New Delhi, Thai authorities detained him in a hotel in Phuket. Meanwhile, the Indian government confiscated their passports, and a blue notice was issued through Interpol.
Goa Police said that as soon as the two brothers reach Delhi Airport, the police team present there will take them into their custody. After this, he will be produced in a Delhi court, where transit remand will be sought to take him to Goa. A team of Goa Police is already going to leave for Delhi for this.
According to officials, a team of lawyers of the Luthra brothers had gone to Thailand and met them at the immigration detention center. Both will be presented in the Thai court before deportation. After this, the Indian Embassy issued them emergency travel certificates because the Ministry of External Affairs had canceled their passports.
Police have registered a case against the Luthra brothers under several serious sections of the Indian Justice Code. These include allegations of death by negligence, endangering people's lives, and serious lapses in fire safety.
So far six people have been accused in this case. These include five managers of the nightclub and a businessman named Ajay Gupta, who is said to be a partner of the Luthra brothers. Police are searching for another accused, Surinder Kumar Khosla, who is the British owner of the club's property and is currently said to be out of the country.
Police investigation has revealed that the building in which the club was running had neither construction permission nor an occupancy certificate nor an NOC from the fire department. Apart from this, notice to demolish the building had also already been issued. Police say that the investigation is ongoing and more revelations may be made in the coming days.
