Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has received a 40-day parole, his lawyer Advocate Jatinder Khurana confirmed on Tuesday. Speaking to the media, Khurana said the parole is allowed under law. As per rules, any convict can be granted 70 days of parole and 21 days of furlough in a year. During this parole period, Ram Rahim will be staying at his ashram located in Sirsa.

Previous Temporary Releases

Earlier, on April 9, he was given a 21-day furlough. This was the 13th time he was temporarily allowed to leave prison since his sentencing. His lawyer said the furlough was granted as per legal process and not through any special favor. Khurana added, "There is nothing unusual here. A convict has the right to take parole and furlough each year. This is not an exception but a legal provision."

Timing Sparks Reactions, But Lawyer Denies Political Link

The release timings of Ram Rahim have often created debates—especially when they happen near elections or religious events. But Khurana rejected such talk this time, saying, “People often question why his parole comes around elections. But this time there is no election or any political event happening, so this is clearly not related to politics.

Since his conviction, Ram Rahim has been granted parole and furlough multiple times. In 2020, he got a one-day parole, followed by a 12-hour one in 2021. In 2022, he received 21 days of furlough and 30 days of parole. In 2023, he was granted two furloughs and another 40-day parole. In 2024, he got a 50-day furlough and 20-day parole. The current release in 2025 is his second for the year. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is serving a 20-year prison sentence in Sunaria Jail in Rohtak, Haryana, after being convicted for raping two of his female followers.
