Kolkata: A major commotion broke out, before TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee could reach Kolkata Airport. The Supporters of TMC and BJP were assembled there. Follwing the situation, clashes occured at the airport's arrival gate, with both sides resorting to kicks and punches. Police had to rush to the scene to control the situation.

The atmosphere at Kolkata Airport heated up when TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee was arriving from Delhi. Even before his arrival, a scuffle erupted between TMC and BJP supporters near the airport's arrival gate.

What had TMC supporters alleged?

TMC supporters alleged that BJP workers had gathered there specifically to throw eggs at Abhishek Banerjee. The alleged incident were planned upon his arrival. This accusation led to a heated confrontation between the two groups. This eventually escalated into a physical altercation with pushing, shoving, and fighting.
Police promptly actedconsidering the situation and chaos at the airport. Officers separated into two groups at the exit gate. They attempted to bring the situation under control. With heavy police presence deployed, the commotion was finally brought to an end.

Throughout this entire turmoil, Abhishek Banerjee managed to exit the airport safely. He left through a different gate than where the chaos was occurring, using an alternate exit to avoid the confrontation.

Why did Abhishek Banerjee go to Delhi?

A major internal dispute is ongoing within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party. Due to this conflict, TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee traveled to Delhi to meet with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Banerjee wants the parliamentary membership of those MPs who are attempting to leave the party or switch to other political parties to be revoked. He submitted a complaint against 20 such MPs to the Speaker.

Abhishek's harsh criticism of defecting leaders?

Abhishek Banerjee criticized his own party's leaders who are considering changing sides. He made it clear that while wins and losses are part of politics, leaders who refuse to fight out of fear or greed for crores of rupees, or who shake hands with the BJP, have no place in Bengal. He also stated that if any MP is offended by his remarks, they can file a case against him, and he will prove his allegations in court.
