Shimla: An email threatening a bomb attack before Republic Day in Shimla has alarmed the Himachal Pradesh administration. The anonymous email has claimed that a suicide bomber will attack if the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister hoisted the national flag on Republic Day. 

How has the Himachal Pradesh administration reacted?

The Himachal Pradesh administration took the message seriously and informed the police. An FIR has been registered under various sections of the law, and an investigation has been launched. The email was received on the official email ID of the Deputy Commissioner's office in Shimla.

What has the police said?

According to the Himachal Pradesh Police, the email was sent from a protected email ID. The message was first received by the Deputy Commissioner's office and then forwarded to the Sadar Police Station in Shimla via the Women/SSP office. The email contained information sent electronically by an unknown person. 

According to the Himachal Pradesh Police, this email is a false message intended to spread rumors and confusion in the state administration ahead of Republic Day 2026. The police say that the purpose of such messages is to create fear and insecurity among the people.

What action has the police taken?

According to the police, such threats are taken seriously, especially in the context of a national festival like Republic Day. The content of the email is not only intended to scare the general public but is also considered an attempt to harm the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of the country. Therefore, all aspects related to security are being reviewed, and necessary precautions are being taken.

A Shimla police officer said that a technical investigation is underway to identify the sender of the email. Cyber evidence is being examined to determine where and by whom the email was sent. The police have appealed to the public not to believe any rumors and to immediately report any suspicious information or activity to the police. An FIR has been registered in this case at Sadar Police Station, Shimla, under sections 351(3), 353(1)(b), and 152 of the Indian Penal Code. Police say the investigation is ongoing and further action will be taken after all the facts related to the case have been examined.
