Guwahati: During the swearing-in ceremony of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in Assam, security agencies took major action and detained a suspicious person. According to the police, during investigation at the venue, live bullets were recovered from him. This incident came to light when many big leaders of the country were present at the function venue in Khanapara, Guwahati. Many senior NDA leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda had come to attend the program. After the incident, security agencies immediately came into alert mode.
According to the information, all the people were being intensively checked at the entrance of the venue. During this time, the security personnel found the activities of a person suspicious. On searching, live cartridges were found from him. After this, the security personnel took him into custody without any delay. No weapon was recovered in the initial investigation, but after bullets were found, vigilance was increased in the entire campus.
Very tight security arrangements were already made for the swearing-in ceremony. Many union ministers, chief ministers of BJP ruled states and senior leaders were present in the program. In such a situation, the arrival of a person with bullets at the venue is being considered a serious matter for the security agencies. Additional police forces were deployed immediately after the incident and checking was tightened at all entry points.
Police and intelligence agencies are interrogating the detained person. Officials say that at present it is being ascertained why he had reached the venue with the pills. The investigating agencies are also probing his mobile records, contacts and background. It is not yet clear whether he is associated with any organization or not.
After the incident, questions are now being raised regarding the security arrangements. However, police officials say that the suspect was caught in time and no untoward incident was allowed to happen. The investigating agencies are now investigating the entire matter from every aspect to find out whether there was any lapse in security.
