National News: The tractor trolley was carrying laborers from nearby villages to the fields for harvesting soybeans. Most of the passengers were daily-wage workers who relied on seasonal farming to earn their livelihood. The group had started their journey early in the morning, hoping to complete the harvest by evening. For many of these families, agriculture remains the only source of income, making such travel unavoidable despite unsafe conditions.
According to initial reports, the trolley overturned when the tractor lost balance on an uneven stretch of road near Hariyakhedi, close to Bibikhedi and Ratankhedi. Witnesses stated that the tractor driver tried to avoid a deep pit, but the sudden jerk caused the vehicle to tilt sharply. Within seconds, the overloaded trolley toppled, trapping several passengers underneath.
The accident claimed the lives of three people, including two women and one man. Their identities have not yet been officially released by the authorities. The news spread quickly through the surrounding villages, causing grief among families and relatives. Locals rushed to the site to help rescue the injured and pull out those trapped under the trolley.
At least sixteen workers sustained injuries, ranging from minor cuts to severe fractures and head wounds. Emergency services quickly reached the spot, and ambulances shifted the victims to Sanwer Civil Hospital. Doctors confirmed that several of the injured required urgent treatment, and those in critical condition were referred to Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital (MYH) in Indore for specialized care.
Local police and administration arrived at the accident scene shortly after receiving information. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine if the tractor was overloaded or if negligence played a role in the mishap. Officials have also assured that proper medical assistance is being provided to all victims and that compensation measures will be considered for the affected families.
Residents of the area say that such accidents are not uncommon, as tractors and trollies are often used for transporting people despite being meant for agricultural goods. Poor road conditions and lack of proper transport options force laborers to risk their safety. Experts point out that strict enforcement of road safety rules and infrastructure improvement are needed to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Back in the villages, families of the deceased are in deep mourning. For many, the victims were the sole breadwinners, making the loss even more devastating. The tragedy highlights the daily risks faced by rural workers in their struggle to survive. As villagers prepare for the funerals, the accident serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need for better safety measures on rural roads.
