New Delhi: India on Tuesday issued a sharp response to reports that China provided support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor last year, stating that countries
claiming to be responsible global actors should reflect on the consequences of backing efforts to shield terror infrastructure.

What is the reason of this statement?

During a media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that countries that consider themselves responsible should consider whether supporting efforts to protect terrorist infrastructure affects their reputation.

This reaction came after a Chinese official reportedly admitted that Beijing had provided on-site technical assistance to Pakistan during its conflict with India. Tensions between the two neighboring countries escalated significantly after the Pahalgam terrorist attack.

What did Ministry of External Affairs say?

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that, "We have seen these reports that corroborate what was known earlier. Operation Sindoor was a precise, targeted and calibrated response to the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam, aimed at destroying state sponsored terrorist infrastructure operating out of Pakistan and at its behest."

He further said that it is for those countries that consider themselves responsible to consider whether supporting efforts to protect terrorist infrastructure will have any impact on their credibility and reputation.

“It is for nations who consider themselves responsible to reflect whether supporting attempts to protect terrorist infrastructure affects their reputation and standing,” he added.

Did China help Pakistan?

China recently admitted for the first time that it provided technical assistance to Pakistan on the battlefield during last year's Indo-Pak conflict.

In an interview broadcast by Chinese media last week, Zhang Heng, an engineer at the Aviation Industry Corporation of China’s Chengdu Aircraft Design and Research Institute, said that China provided technical assistance to Pakistan during the four-day conflict in May last year.

“At the support base, we frequently heard the roar of fighter jets taking off and the constant wail of air raid sirens. By late morning in May, the temperature was already approaching 50 degrees Celsius. It was a real ordeal for us, both mentally and physically,” he was quoted as saying.

Following Operation Sindoor, several Indian officials alleged that China was assisting Pakistan by providing sensitive information on Indian military installations. A recent US Department of Defence report revealed that China supported Pakistan's operation through information warfare, cyber activities, intelligence support, and diplomatic maneuvering.
