New Delhi: India and America have taken a big economic step on Saturday. Both the countries have prepared a framework, the objective of which is to make two-way trade easier and faster. This agreement will include reduction in customs duties (tariffs), removal of non-tariff trade barriers and simplification of regulation. This step reflects the intention to give a new direction to the business partnership between India and America.
According to sources, this agreement has been prepared for the temporary phase so that the trade rules of both countries can be made transparent, cooperative and in the market interest. Through this, a common framework has been decided to reduce some customs duties and simplify some rules.
Both India and America are big economies of the world. Any trade barrier or high tariff impacts import-export. In such a situation, if easy rules are made between the two countries, then new business opportunities can open, investment can increase and employment can also benefit.
This change can impact large sectors like consumer goods, technology, pharma, agricultural products, and machinery. Especially due to the relief on high duty products coming from America, there may be a decline in the prices of some goods in the Indian market.
The goal of this agreement is to gradually reduce barriers, not to remove them immediately. Many rules still require detailed negotiations and time from both sides. This agreement is a stepping stone towards a full trade agreement.
The commerce and finance ministries of both India and the US have said the initiative will bring “mutual benefits to both economies.” Both sides expressed confidence that this framework will prove to be a strong foundation for future cooperation.
Analysts believe that if tariffs and other rules are simplified, it will be easier to export Indian products to the US. American investment may also increase, which may boost growth in the technology, manufacturing, and service sectors.
It has been officially stated that this interim framework will be implemented in a phased manner. Changes will be made in some categories initially and will be expanded over time. More meetings are expected to be held between teams from the two countries in the next few months.
