New Delhi: An Indian Air Force training aircraft crashed on Friday near Chennai in Tamil Nadu. The Air Force said in a short note that the pilot ejected in time and was safe after the incident. The force explained that the aircraft involved in the crash was a PC-7 Pilatus that was flying on a routine training mission close to the Tambaram area of Chennai.
According to the Air Force, the pilot used the ejection system before the plane hit the ground. The service added that a Court of Inquiry has been set up to find the reason behind the accident and to check all technical and operational points linked to the event. The note also said that more information will be shared after the inquiry finishes its first review.
The maker says the PC-7 trains new pilots for different kinds of military flying. Pilatus, the Swiss company that builds the plane, says the MKX version has Martin-Baker ejection seats and a trusted Pratt and Whitney Canada engine. The aircraft is widely trusted. The company says the design of the PC-7 MKX helps new pilots handle the aircraft safely during training.
