National News: An IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Phuket, Thailand, was thrown into chaos on Friday when a bomb threat was received. Security agencies responded immediately, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing at Chennai airport. After a thorough investigation, the threat was later determined to be a hoax. Officials said the flight has now been rerouted to Phuket.
A statement issued by the airline stated that flight number 6E 1089, scheduled to fly from Mumbai to Phuket on Friday, was diverted to Chennai for security reasons. Following established protocols, the relevant security agencies were immediately informed as soon as the information was received. Upon arrival in Chennai, the plane was thoroughly checked.
Panic among passengers was triggered by the bomb threat. However, the crew and pilot maintained calm and assured passengers that all necessary security measures were being taken. After the plane landed at Chennai airport, passengers were safely evacuated.
Officials stated that the bomb squad and security team thoroughly searched the plane and all its luggage. After an hours-long investigation, it was determined that the threat was fake, and no explosive material was found on board. An investigation is underway to determine who made the threat and why.
IndiGo Airlines responded to the incident, stating that the safety of passengers, crew, and the aircraft is always its top priority. The statement said, "Our flight from Mumbai to Phuket had to land in Chennai due to a security threat. Due to a night curfew at Phuket airport, the journey was resumed late at night. To ensure passengers were not inconvenienced, breakfast was provided and regular updates were shared."
Security agencies are now trying to determine who made the threat. Initial information suggests that the threat call originated from Mumbai. However, this has not yet been confirmed. Officials stated that such matters are taken very seriously, as they concern the lives of passengers and the safety of aircraft. For some time now, such false threats have been received at various airports across the country, posing a significant challenge to airlines and security agencies.
Following this incident, strict security measures have been put in place at Chennai Airport, and passengers have been appealed for cooperation. Currently, the situation is completely under control, and flights have resumed.
